Large Slot Reds and Bull Redfish are bighting at the Alabama Point Perdido Pass Bridge in Orange Beach Today! Just under the bridge next to the piles nice redfish pulled on Captain Ritchie Russell's lines and put smiles on his groups faces. The following picture is two of the many fish that were caught.
Captain Russell reported the fish were caught on shrimp and other cut baits. The pogy or menhaden are thick in Cotton Bayou and the reds love them. The fish started to bite just as the outgoing tide switched to an incoming tide.
Orange Beach fall fishing season starts around the end of September and ends around the middle of December. Fishing is pretty good this time of year pending weather and barameter pressures. Fishing before a cold front can be really good. The Bull Reds also known as Red Drum can be caught off the beaches of Orange Beach, Gulf Shores and Fort Morgan. Fishing these 30 inch to 48 inch fish can be accomplished by trolling, drift fishing, sight fishing, pier fishing and surf fishing. Since these fish average 15 to 45 pounds you will need to prepare for a fight. Our Guides are rigged and ready to put you and your guest on these beautiful fish. To book a charter give Captain Ron a call at 2514228665. If you are surf fishing we recommend using live pogy or cut mullet for your bait. Watch for birds feeding on baitfish off the beaches and cast as close to the bait as possible. If you are pier fishing off the Alabama State Pier, have a gaff hook with long rope or a large round lobster trap so you can retrieve your fish without breaking your line. We recommend the round lobster trap due to the thick scales on these bull reds make it hard to gaff. Watch for these fish to be schooled up sometimes their will be hundreds of them in a single school.
The Speckled Trout and Slot Redfish will be good during the fall months in the Orange Beach back bays and waterways also. Fishing structure during the days and around lights that are on piers produce some of the largest trout you can catch on the Gulf Coast. We recommend using live shrimp, croakers and artificial grubs. These fish can get spooked very easily so if your fishing by boat get into stealth mode. Easy up on the area your targeting and if they stop biting move on to another spot. Looking to catch a trophy trout? Think medium to big croakers. These fish hate a croaker due to the fact they eat trout eggs. The large trout love big baits and will give you a great fight with light tackle. Croakers eat the eggs of spawning trout and they will come after it even when not feeding at times just to eliminate it. If your looking to catch some of these fish contact Captain Ron at 2514228665.
